I showed around 12 new works in the gallery along with guest artist William Edmundson showing his fall collection of landscapes. We enjoyed live music and wonderful food, and made alot of new friends and acquiantances. Around 200-300 people probably came through the block party.

In all the hurry scurry of the night and preopening jitters- I actually forgot to take in my camera and snap a few photos..just like me! Hopefully I’ll find someone who got one soon!

This is a photo of the newest completed commission I have just finished for a really nice couple building a new home. The painting is a really big one–3x 4 feet. It took a while but I am extremely happy with it. I love the colors and the jubilant mood the painting depicts. I should have prints of this one available before long on art.com as well as poster prints and giclees on canvas from my own website.

 On another note, I’ll be getting ready to open my new studio gallery on Wed. November 21st. Everyone is invited.. we’ll be part of a gallery crawl from 5-9. The location is 131 Nth. 2nd St. in Monroe for those of you who are local. I do hope you’ll come out and support the grand opening of the Tabarlet Studio & Gallery.

 Edmund Williamson will be showing in my space with me, as well as many local artists in the adjoining gallery spaces. This is a dream come true for me and I am extremely excited.

Here are my two latest paintings.. recent commissions for a new collector in Mississippi. The abstract is titled : Envy Revisited.

The new orleans work is New Orleans Nite Brite..

cool title huh?  Both canvas are in a 24 x 36 size..and will be displayed in offseting walls of a room.. I think they will look incredible together.

I am enjoying the studio. Got it all set up and now I’ve moved in and enjoy working. I hope to by some professional studio lighting as it’s a bit dark and tends to make me feel down. Artist are so fickle.. things like lighting can tend to throw me off emotionally. Strange isn’t it?

 Well out the door to run to lunch with a great friend of mine. We are both September babies and have been friends since elementary school. Strange to see us getting close to 40! Oh well, they say 40 is the new 2o! Here is a photo of the 2 paintings together for some reason the perspective is off when you compare the 2 above? ;(

Here’s a quick peek at my newest painting. It’s a very fun, funky red shotgun house in a 16 x 20. I’ve aptly named this one Little Red Rockin in the Quarter. Looks like it’s going to be snagged up even before I get to list it on my website. I’ll know more in a day or so, and if not I’ll be placing it up for sale directly on www.neworleans-paintings.com

Don’t worry though, if  you just love it commissions of a similar piece in the same vein are available in a 16 x 20 for $425.00. I’m also on the way over to my printing company to have a professional scan made of this piece so I’ll soon be offering gicless on canvas of this image. Once all the scans have been taken I’ll post more info.

On a personal note, we’ve been super busy with family stuff. My oldest is getting ready to go off to college and that has brought a huge list of to-do’s in preparation  for that. I’ve been taking it a bit slower this summer, spending time with her because this maybe our last one together. I sure hope  not but who knows what the future may hold later on..so in the same vein as that old saying of quiet down cobwebs–paintings will keep but your children grow up so fast. I encourage you to slow down this weekend, and spend some real time listening, loving and laughing. Because at the end of the day money just doesn’t matter like your kids do!

 The studio is coming along.. been a tough little building to tackle. I’m moving in some today anyway even though we aren’t completely finished. I just can’t take another minute of not getting in there and painting! =)

It’s been a bit since I’ve updated. Things have been very hectic this summer. I know alot of you have been wondering why it’s been so quiet on my end. We took a week vacation on a cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, & Cozumel with our 2 lovely daughters..

My oldest has just graduated high school and is planning on attending a ministerial internship program in Baton Rouge in August. This took us kind of by surprise as she changed her plans on us ( a good change in my opinion) kind of quickly over the last 6 weeks. So with all the details of graduation,  going down to visit the campus,etc. We have been quite busy making preparations, and all the details of having your firstborn prepare to spread their wings. Mom is having a tough time dealing with the thought of her being gone and on her own. Hannah has been homeschooled since 4th grade, along with her sister. We are all 3 very close. I am very proud of Hannah though, she is a beautiful, intelligent, kind and loving person.  I know life holds many wonderful things for her. She’s the beauty in the photo.

 After months of looking ,we have finally finalized the studio situation. I rented a small storefront in the downtown historic area to open a studio/gallery. The building has good bones, and a face only a right-brained creative artist could love. Lots of potential and a ton of working/renovating that still needs to be done.

 So, as you can see, it’s been a wild ride for the last few months here.

The hiatus has been good for me. I feel excited and ready to get back to work in the new and improved studio before too long. 

Maybe I’ll be able to list a few new works soon!

This last week we had the reoccurring visit from the doggy artist. His name is Peanut and he obviously has a passion for paint when I am not looking. This time the little stinker couldn’t deny he had been the one who committed the crime.. he was sporting the evidence of his artistly passion! The guilty look as I snapped the photos cracked me up. Anyway, you’ll never know what is going to happen around the studio here. He is the sweetest little yorkie.. but should have been named Picasso!
